A Week of Tastes Menu will allow your children to discover a new world
of tastes and flavours. These special menus will introduce your children to some of the chef's (and their children's) favourite dishes and help your children to develop a curiosity and positive attitude towards experiencing and understanding new cuisines.
As part of the Sydney International Food Festival, the following restaurants are offering special set-price Week of Tastes Menus at family-friendly hours. These are designed to be an educational
as well as an enjoyable experience for you and your children.
2b Mona Road, Darling Point, 9328 0305 Bei Amici is very proud to be associated with the "Week of Tastes“ from the 15th – 25th of October. Our goal is to encourage our customers to bring their children to experience our food and secondly, to provide a level of education as well as pleasure from their dining experience. The children will have their own menu designed by our 7-year-old son Max and his friends. At 7, Max likes his food with one or two flavours clearly defined. He does not like his food to contain chillies or other extreme flavours. Max attends Darlinghurst Public School which has recently started a vegetable garden. This has given Max and other children a great love of raw vegetables. At Bei Amici we feel it is important that children know how to behave and enjoy eating at restaurants. Felix Rutz, owner and head chef of Bei Amici will speak to the children about how everything was cooked and (hopefully) answer all their questions. (see Menu...)
Bird Cow Fish, Shops 4 & 5, 500 Crown Street, Surry Hills, 9380 4090 As part of the Week of Tastes program, Bird Cow Fish is offering a special menu accompanied by recipes and information about the source of
the produce and the techniques used in order for the children to
contemplate the five senses involved in the enjoyment and appreciation of their food and restaurant

Bistrode, 478 Bourke Street, Surry Hills, 9380 7333 Fish Fingers are a classic children's dish and we have chosen to adapt this dish to incorporate local, fresh, sustainable & seasonal produce. Local blue eye is in plentiful supply, its firm texture makes it ideal for fish fingers and it's sweet mild flavour is appealing to younger taste buds. Rather than choosing the traditional accompaniment of chips we have looked for a healthy option using fresh seasonal produce that can be prepared in a way that is fun and colourful on the plate. Tomatoes are great at this time of year and a homemade tomato ketchup is a perfect dipping sauce for the fish fingers. Peas are also beautiful in spring and mushy peas are a great way to prepare them for maxium colour. And they are a lot easier for young children to keep on the fork! (see Menu...)
The Burlington Bar and Dining, 6 Burlington Street, Crows Nest, 9439 7888 Matt's inspiration for these menus were his two boys, Thomas and Oliver. In Matt's words, "These are dishes that are both fun and full of flavour. My children love nothing more than a fresh juice concoction, a bit of grown up food and finished off with fresh berries." (see Menu...)

Crown Street School Lunch hosted by Green is a Beautiful Colour The
lunch brings together Green is a Beautiful Colour, the Week of Tastes
and Jeremy Strode whose restaurant "Bistrode" is nearby. Jeremy has
fostered the experience in developing a menu with students which is
founded on sourcing local food, simply prepared and shared with the
community. Jeremy will also conduct a class that explores food on the
menu during the Week of Tastes. The organiser "green is a
beautiful colour" hosts food experiences that celebrate the beautiful
and simple pleasures of eating fresh, local produce together in
community settings. Kristy Moore and Barbara Doran are the people
behind the projects, bringing together backgrounds in art direction
& sustainability. (seeGreen is a Beautiful Colour)
Danks Street Depot, 1/2 Danks Street, Waterloo, 9698 2201 It is so important for kids to be involved in food! It's pretty amazing how diverse their palates are and how people so often assume that flavours and textures are “too rich” or “too sophisticated” for children's young tastebuds. I thought of my own kids when I put together my Week of Tastes Menu and how I like to eat with them when I’m away from the restaurant. Like so many young people, they love crunchy textures, creamy flavours and for their taste buds to be absolutely stimulated! What’s often missing from kid's menus is for all of these things to be available to them. Its amazing watching their faces as they experience sweet, sour, salty, bitter, savoury and umami and I’ve tried to provide all of these qualities in my Week of Tastes Menu. The dishes should appeal to little kids and big kids alike! Throughout October, we will be hosting early dinners (6pm), aimed to get families eating, enjoying and discussing food together. (see Menu...)

Restaurant Arras, 24 Hickson Road, Walsh Bay, 9252 6285 Our Week of Tastes Menu helps kids to start eating properly, and understanding their food and its origins. Food is the most historical thing on earth and at Restaurant Arras we draw on this history to tell a story through our food. We have created a menu to enlighten young people's tastes and appreciation of food, a menu of "Old Hat" classics and childhood favourites. The menu spans dishes Adam and Lovaine ate as kids but with a modern twist. There will also be newer dishes that draw inspirations from food, ingredients and producers in the British countryside. (see Menu...)
